Ruby Bridges

By Tommmy Dziak

Ruby Bridges was born on September 8th, 1954. She is still alive. She worked as a teacher and then a principal of the same school she went too. Now she travels around the world. She was the first African American to go to an all white school and the student’s parents were mad. No school or teacher wanted to teach Ruby. During that time her dad lost his job, her grandparents got sent to a farm for 25 years, and the grocery store that they shop at banned them from the store forever. When Ruby got to school the first time she sat in the principal’s office for the whole day. She did not do anything bad just the teacher did not show up. She thought that school is easy she did not know why she did not come. The next day the teacher came and no other kids showed up. She didn’t know why just like when the teacher didn’t show up. A few more days some kids showed up. The reason are lives are better today because of Ruby Bridges is that now everybody can go to school together no matter if they are white or black.
